Why do I need lessons?

In order to sing any type of music well (pop, musical theatre, classical, folk, jazz, ensemble, etc.,) the student must
1) sing with a clear, pleasant healthy tone that is in tune,
2) sing with a good vocal and dynamic range,
3) project the meaning of the words, and
4) be expressive.

It is necessary to learn music accurately, efficiently, fulfilling the composer’s intentions. Singers must be able to communicate with others using musical terminology.

SINGING LESSONS AND COACHING
Singing Lessons will include vocal technique, musicianship, theory, use of language, performance techniques and practice, as well as song choice and building a repertoire.
Coaching is primarily working on interpretation, performance presentation and performance practice, and assumes the singer knows HOW to use their voice with a healthy solid technique. Coaching may help one prepare for recitals and performances.

GROUP VOICE/VOCAL ENSEMBLES
Group Voice emphasizes vocal and musicianship skill building.
Vocal Ensembles emphasize learning songs for public performance.

CHORAL TECHNIQUES with AUDITION PREPARATION
The choral singer must adapt his/her voice to balance and blend with other singers.

SOLO AUDITION PREPARATION and INSTRUCTION
These lessons are individualized to meet the requirements of the student’s specific audition.

BASIC THEORY/MUSICIANSHIP
These are the required fundamental, musical skills that pertain to reading, writing, listening to and understanding music.

PIANO FOR SINGERS
Piano for Singers will help the student understand the music more deeply since the keyboard provides harmonic context to the melody.
